The Naked Truth

Earlier this week, I was reading through the FAQs on the Clean Slate Spa website and realized there isn’t much talk about nudity during a waxing appointment.  With so many new clients coming in during the last several months, I thought it is the perfect time to chat about getting naked. Just so that we are clear…I AM completely, totally, 100% comfortable with nudity. In fact, I am so immune to seeing my clients naked, that I am always surprised when I have a new client who is self-conscious. Naked bodies honestly do not phase me. Clients of ALL shapes and sizes have stepped through the...

The Dreaded No-Show

Oh, the dreaded No Show. It is the fear of every person who works by appointment in the beauty industry. A No Show is when a client simply doesn’t show up for their appointment. No call, no email, no smoke signal. Nothing. Nada, Zilch.  And here we are, waiting and wondering, like a girl who got stood up for the prom. Sad. To prevent skin aging and irregular skin pigment, you need broad spectrum sun protection all year, including fall, winter, and early...

It’s Not the Chocolate or the Greasy Fries

It’s not the chocolate or the greasy fries. It’s the iodized salt on those fries. Yes, it is salty foods and food high in iodides that are the culprit in making acne worse. Below is a list of foods typically high in iodides. We tell people to not go crazy around eliminating these foods–just be aware of eating too much of them. For example, we had a client who was almost acne free. And then she had breakouts; it was a mystery as to why. We found out that she was eating a lot of seafood or seaweed in the form of sprinkling kelp on her food every day.”As you can see by the chart, kelp has...

Tips For Clear Skin

Tips For Clear Skin

Get enough rest and reduce your stress. Stress stimulates the adrenal gland and in the acne-prone individual, the adrenal gland promotes oil production which leads to clogged pores. Stay away from foods, vitamin supplements and sports drinks/bars that contain iodides. Iodized salt, seafood, fish, seaweed, fast foods, dairy products and especially kelp tablets (as taken for thyroid support) are not good for acne. Contrary to popular opinion, chocolate and greasy foods (unless they contain salt, which most do) do not aggravate acne. Stay away from “high androgen” foods. These are...
